Swatantrata Sainik Samman Yojana (स्वतंत्रता सैनिक सम्मान पेंशन योजना)(SSY) – The Union Cabinet led by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved the continuation of the Swatantrata Sainik Samman Yojana (स्वतंत्रता सैनिक सम्मान पेंशन योजना) (SSY) after 12th Five Years Scheme (Panchvarshiya Yojana). The period of the 12th Five Years Scheme (Panchvarshiya Yojana) was ended on 31st March 2017.

As a symbol of respect for approval of this scheme, freedom fighters in the freedom struggle of the country, for their contribution, their life partner, and after that their character dependents i.e. unmarried and unemployed girls and dependent parents According to the eligibility rules and procedure, the monthly honor pension will be provided.

Financial Estimate Under Swatantrata Sainik Samman Yojana (SSY)

During the year 2017-2020, the financial estimates of Rs 2552.93 crore have been estimated from the continuation of SSSY. The yearly fund will be as recurring expenditure as follows:

Details of Swatantrata Sainik Samman Yojana (SSY)

The Government started the pension scheme for the Former Political Prisoners of Andaman. It was started in 1969. This scheme was started in the honour of those freedom fighters who were imprisoned in Port Blair’s cellular jail. The scheme for providing a regular pension to the freedom fighters was started in 1972 on the occassion of the 25th anniversary of Independence. After that, in 1980, a Liberal scheme was started which was nemed as Swatantrata Sainik Samman Pension Yojana (स्वतंत्रता सैनिक सम्मान पेंशन योजना). In financial year 2018-18, this scheme was renamed as Swatantrata Sainik Samman Yojana (SSY). So far, a total of 1,71,617 freedom fighters and their eligible dependents have been sanctioned for Central Honor.

At present, 37,356 freedom fighters and their dependent pensioners have been covered under this scheme, which includes 12,657 freedom fighters and 23,127 dependent life spouses and 1572 girls. Initially, the pension amount was Rs.200 per month, which has been extended periodically. From 15.8.2016 this amount has been increased for all categories of pensioners. So far, the dearness relief scheme based on the All India Consumer Price Index for industrial workers applied to the freedom fighters pensioners was discontinued, and in place of this, dearness allowance has been applied twice to the employees of the Central Government in the year. The allowances given to the pensioners were named ‘dearness relief’. The current amount of pension for different categories of Central Freedom Fighters pensioners is as follows.
