PM Awas Yojana – MHUPA (Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs) has provided approval to construct 30,000 affordable housing units for urban poor on private land at Sholapur, Maharashtra, under the Central Government’s ambitious scheme Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban). Besides this, the Central Government has also sanctioned an assistance of Rs 450 crore for this project.
After several detailed discussions between Durga Shanker Mishra (Secretary Housing & Urban Affairs) chaired an inter-ministerial Central Sanctioning and Monitoring Committee (CSMC) and Maharashtra Government’s officials, chaired the CSMC has given the approval for first of its kind affordable housing project on private land under PM Awas Yojana (Urban).
A proposal for the construction of about 30,000 affordable housing units for Raynagar Cooperative Housing Federation, Sholapur have been submitted by the Federation. Its members consist of beedi and textile workers and other urban poor belonging to Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) at a total expense of Rs 1,811 crore under the PM Awas Yojana (Urban). After the investigation, the Maharashtra Government agreed to provide an assistance of Rs 300 crore for the same and then forwarded the proposal to the ministry in March last year.
In order to ensure the proposed project is completed in time as funding by both the central and state governments is involved, the MHUPA Secretary Mr. DS Mishra informed Maharashtra officials about the ownership of land, compliance with the Mission Guidelines including the eligibility of beneficiaries, AADHAR linking, role of state government and implementation oversight.
According to the State Government Officials, the price of each house has been set at Rs 6.03 lakh in a transparent manner and with central and state assistance. Thus, the delivery price would be Rs 3,53 lakh per house.
CMSC has given the approval to construct 2,84,803 more affordable housing units for homeless urban poor under PM Awas Yojana (Urban). By this approval, its becomes the highest number approved in a single meeting of CSMC.
The total price of these housing units to be constructed in six states is Rs 16,407 crore for which the central government has sanctioned an assistance of Rs 4,272 crore.
