Green Skill Development Programme

Green Skill Development Programme – Dr. Harshvardhan, Union Forest, Environment and Climate Change Minister, launched the Green Skill Development Program (GSDP) on May 14, 2018. The objective of this program is to meet the increasing demand of skilled workforce for the conservation of the environment.

Under this program, more than five and a half lakhs of youth will be trained in the work related to environmental work in the next three years. During this period, 30 types of training programs will also be started and by the year 2021, trained youth will be prepared for environmental protection.

The main motive of the government behind launching this Green Skill Development Programme (GSDP) is to to provide green skills training to 80,000 people and to fill the skill gaps in environment and forest sector. Through this, the central government will provide employment to 2.25 lakh people in the next year.

Under this program, the government will provide skill development training to youths especially dropouts of 10th and 12th class and thus will increase the availability of skilled workforce.

Green Skill Development Programme (GSDP) – Mobile App

On this occasion, a mobile application called GSDP-ENVIS was also launched so that interested applicants can get more information about the program.

This Mobile app will provide details of the centers offering GSDP courses. This program will improve the workforce of green skilled workers who possess high technical knowledge and are committed towards the goal of sustainable development.

List of Green Skill Development Programme Courses

The Indian Government will conduct over 30 skill development programmes during the Financial Year 2018-19. The time period of the courses will be around 80 hours to 560 hours. Here is the list of courses –

Air / Water / Soil Pollution Monitoring Sewage Treatment Plant
Effluent Treatment Plants and Common Effluent Treating Plants (STP/ETP/CETP) operation Waste Management
Forest Management Water Budgeting
Auditing Conservation of River Dolphins
Wildlife Management Para Taxonomy
People’s Biodiversity Register (PBRs) Mangroves Conservation
Bamboo Management Livelihood Generation
