Digi Gaon Project – Free Wifi Chaupal Service – The Central Government has started the Wi-Fi Choupal under Digi Gaon Project / Digital Village Scheme in Dhanauri Kalan village in the Jewar constituency. Under this Digital Village scheme, the central government will provide education, skill development and healthcare in the rural areas.

These Wi-Fi Choupals will be managed by the Village-based Common Service Centers (CSCs). These centers will digital infrastructure and Internet to the rural people. Apart from this, the Central Government is also going to launch this facility in 700 villages throughout the country till December 2018.

The Central Government is going to extend the total number of Common Service Centres (CSCs) which provides basic electronic services to cover about 2.5 lakh gram panchayats. Besides this, the central government is also going to launch a Subsidy Scheme for villages under Digital India Initiative.

The WI-Fi Choupal was launched in Jewar on 20 May 2018. These Wi-Fi Chaupals connects all the villages with Wi-Fi network.

Digi Gaon Project – Digital Village Scheme Features

The Central Government has launched the DigiGaon Project for the development of villages and to make them self-sustainable. The Government has already established sanitary napkin manufacturing services in 110 villages. Besides this, the government will also expand these services to 6,000 villages by Dec 2018. Here are some important features of this scheme –

  • These Wi-Fi Choupals will provide low-cost internet facilities to the people of villages. Besides this, it will also enable the people to become entrepreneurs by providing assistance for setting up of cottage industries for the manufacture of candlesticks, sanitary napkins, LED Bulbs, Health Service units etc.
  • The Common Service Centers will access points for the delivery of the digital services and helps people to enroll through IGNOU and NIOS distance learning programmes. So far, there are a total number of 2.91 lakh CSCs operational in the country.
  • In the starting, the Central Government will initiate this project in Piyala and Dayalpur (in Haryana), Chandankiyari East and Shivbabudih (in Jharkhand) and Dhanauri Kalan and Sultanpur (in Uttar Pradesh)

Apart from all this, these Digi Gaon will also provide CSC services like Aadhaar, Banking, Telemedicine, Education and Financial services regularly. All the people can apply for income certificate, domicile certificate, pension scheme, mobile recharge etc. at their doorstep.
