As a part of Union Budget 2017, Rs 4,814 crore has been proposed for the government’s rural electrification program Deen Daya Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana by the Finance minister Arun Jaitley.
The Government of India has decided to provide free electricity connections to the BPL households under Deen Dayal Updhaya Gram Jyoti Yojana (DDUGJY). According to the scheme, around 4.27 crore connections have been approved and 2.5 crore free connections have been provided to the BPL households as on 31 October 2016.
